Theme: miscellaneous Topic:Prenatal diagnosis of hemoglobinopathies: experience from a single hospital in eastern india Authors: Dr Kabir Mahapatra,pg dept of obstetrics and gynaecology Under guidance:,Prof Dr Sasmita Swain Unit head SCB medical College cuttack INTRODUCTION Hemoglobinopathies are monogenic disorder Ex sickle cell anemia,beta thalesemia Aim and objective: To detect sickle cell disease and beta thalesemia major in fetus Material and methods:descriptive study of women undergoing cvs in SCB MCH CUTTACK Results:out of 30 cases,12 have delivered 6vaginal delivery 6 lscs In 2 cases termination was done as fetus was homozygous for sickle cell disease ,14 patients continuing pregnancy Conclusion:Transabdominal cvs is safe and reliable procedure for prenatal diagnosis and should be considered procedure of choice
