Abstract :
Background- Globally, infertility is one of the major gynaecological problems with a persistently rising trend. Infertility affects about 10-15% of reproductive age couples and female infertility accounts for almost 45.67% cases (WHO). Hysteroscopy and laparoscopy are considered as the gold standard methods, used in assessing tubal patency, endometriosis, for diagnosis and treatment of adhesions, and tubo-ovarian masses. Aims and Objectives-This study aims to retrospectively analyse the diagnosis and outcomes in women who conceived after hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. Methods and Materials-This retrospective analytical study was done in 1090 infertile women who conceived after hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. It was conducted at our hospital from December 2012 to November 2022. Results- Hysteroscopy could detect abnormality in 26.1% cases and laparoscopy could detect pathology in 72% cases. 35.7% women conceived spontaneously and 42.8% by IVF while the remaining 21.5%conceived after ovulation induction with IUI. Of these, 88.1% women had live birth and 11.9% had a miscarriage/still birth. Conclusion-Combined hysteroscopy and laparoscopy is an effective tool and has a definite role as a one step approach in female infertility, where other treatable abnormalities that are unfortunately missed by pelvic examination and usual imaging methods can be diagnosed and treated. It will also help us in decision making and counsel regarding the need for ART in eligible patients, thus avoiding further emotional and financial trauma to the infertile couples.
