Abstract :
INTRODUCTION Takayasu arteritis is a chronic, idiopathic large-vessel vasculitis that affects women of reproductive age and has significant maternal and fetal implications. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The diagnosis of the disease is mainly based on clinical suspicion, history, physical examination and vascular imaging. Aim is to assess the relationship between Takayasu arteritis and pregnancy outcome. Most studies have shown that obstetric outcomes remain unaffected. MATERIAL AND METHODS I present here two cases of Takayasu arteritis in pregnancy that were detected and managed at our institute. 1st case was diagnosed antenatally and had complications like fetal growth restriction and deranged Dopplers. In the 2nd case, disease was already diagnosed, and pregnancy was planned in remission state. RESULTS The 1st case had absent to reversal of end diastolic flow, where caesarean was done and second case had a fullterm vaginal delivery. The important fetomaternal complications are maternal hypertension, pre-eclampsia, prematurity, and intrauterine growth restriction. To reduce maternal and fetal morbidity, controlling the disease before conception is important. CONCLUSIONS Pregnant women without active Takayasu arteritis have a low risk of developing a cardiovascular event. For women with chronic hypertension, it might be important to note the development of pre-eclampsia, fetal growth restriction and abruption. Pregnancy with Takayasu arteritis needs to be timely diagnosed and treated for best maternal and fetal outcome
