INTRODUCTION:
?Thrombocytopenia is defined as platelet count less than 1.5lakh/mm3
?It is the 2nd most common hematologic abnormality encountered during pregnancy, which is characterized principally by bleeding from small vessels.
Aim
? To study thrombocytopenia in pregnancy
OBJECTIVES
? To study the causes of thrombocytopenia maternity and perinatal outcome in pregnancy
MATERIALS AND METHODS
?STUDY AREA: Department of obstetrics ANDHRA MEDICAL COLLEGE ,VIZAG
?SAMPLE SIZE: 30 cases
?STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective observational study
?METHODOLOGY-In this study,30 pregnant women who were having thrombocytopenia are recruited from department of obstetrics and gynaecology, Andhra medical college.
?SOURCE OF DATA- from records of pregnant women admitted
INCLUSION CRITERIA - All pregnant women with thrombocytopenia and with previous history of ITP
CONCLUSION
?The common cause of thrombocytopenia in pregnancy in this study is mainly due to gestational thrombocytopenia (50%), followed by Hypertensive disorders(33%), and ITP(10%).
?Patients with gestational thrombocytopenia have favourable maternal and perinatal outcome.
?On the other hand preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome are associated with adverse perinatal outcomes.
