TITLE : OVARIAN CYSTADENOMA WITH TORSION IN ADOLESCENT GIRL Dr Pooja.P ,Dr Vishal kamate(Belagavi institute of medical sciences ,Belagavi ) INTRODUCTION In Infancy and adolescence, which are hormonally active periods of development, cystic lesions of the ovary are most common. Cysts are mostly non-neoplastic in children and could be categorized as follicular, simple, and corpus luteum cysts. Annual incidence of ovarian tumours in adolescent 2.6 cases per 100,000 children and adolescents, and 90% of these tumors are proven benign Complications - Acute complications such as torsion, hemorrhage and rupture. CASE STUDY A 13-year-old female presented to our gynecological emergency department, weighing 90 kg, with a regular menstrual history. She complained of constipation for the past 15 days and experienced acute colicky abdominal pain associated with two episodes of vomiting with no other significant past history .On general examination, vital signs were normal, Abdominal examination revealed general distension with a tender, cystic mass approximately the size of 20 weeks gestation and the external genital examination was unremarkable. An abdomino-pelvic ultrasound suggested a large 10 x 15 cm cyst in the left adnexa extending into abdomino pelvic region likely ovarian cyst with absent vascularity on colour Doppler . Exploratory laparotomy was performed, followed by left-sided salpingo-oophorectomy, post operative period was uneventful . Her histopathological report (HPR) was suggestive of a serous cyst adenoma ovary. CONCLUSION In conclusion, we had known that germ cell tumors are the most important causes for giant ovarian masses in children. But epithelial tumors should not be forgotten in the differential diagnosis.
