AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the usefulness of colposcopy in discovering the premalignant and malignant lesions of the cervix for out patients in Government General Hospital, Guntur. For a period of 2 months from AUGUST 2024 to SEPTEMBER 2024. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was carried out in the dept of OBGY of Government General Hospital with a sample size of 150. It was a prospective observational study. Assessment of symptomatic women was completed with a pap smear, colposcopy and biopsy in selected patients, who visited the outpatient gynaecology services. RESULTS: In the present study colposcopy reveals different patterns as follows. Among out patients symptomatic women 31.8% abnormal colposcopy, 16.4% acetowhite, 6%negetive lugols iodine, 2% atypical vessels, 2.5% mosaic, 1.2% coarse mosaic, 2.5% subtle punctate,1.2% dense acetowhite. CONCLUSION: Pap smear alone had low specificity, the simultaneous use of colposcopy and pap smear had shown to rise the rate of carcinoma cervix discovery in symptomatic women.
